Middle School Education at WeCan!

Middle School comprises grades VI to VIII. It is the phase that brings major changes in a child’s life. The WeCan Middle School has developed a program to address the unique learning styles of young students at a crucial stage in their development. It provides a transition from the protective, guided environment of the first program to the departmentalized high school. It is a program designed for the unique needs of middle-grade scholars.

During middle school, a child experiences the first few teenage years. Additionally, during this phase that apart from noted physical growth, a child reflects a more mature behavior. As a student, a child knows all the basic concepts in different subjects done at the primary level. His writing and reading skills are well-developed. But with growing years his imagination is also growing and his curiosity is increasing manifolds. Conclusively, a student in middle school is ready to explore and learn more. A sound academic foundation at the middle school forms a strong base for high school studies.

Curriculum

The curriculum of Middle school aims to produce inspiring, confident, and competent learners. Along with scholastic and non-scholastic subjects, teachers motivate students to focus on their goals, assimilate knowledge, and develop skills and abilities. To meet the challenges of the changing world and to help students become responsible citizens; special emphasis is given to encouraging group interactions, projects, and practical-based learning. Exposure to national and international exchange programs offers a pathway to earn advanced skills, and recognition and seek avenues for setting their goals and careers. The Middle school works to bridge a balance between attention to basics and grouping necessary skills and knowledge. At this stage, students explore an ocean of interests and experiences. The curriculum is based on a core of courses in English, Hindi, Mathematics, Social Studies, Science, and Arts.

The school offers a curriculum according to the National Education Policy and blends it with innovative techniques to meet global standards. Students use the computer as a tool, to pursue a study of food webs, motion and growth, and the structure of matter. The integration of technology makes the exploration of the world an interactive process. To maintain the academic standard experienced and trained faculty are engaged in teaching various subjects.

Example - Learning is structured around the problem and the methods used to solve it and includes the study of lines and angles, closed plane figures, circles and triangles, ratios and proportions, analytic geometry, simultaneous equations, functions, etc.

Core structure

The books are selected in accordance with the syllabus. It is ensured that not only the content but also the layout, exercises, and life skill activities are incorporated in an interesting manner in all the books to strengthen the logical and reasoning skills of the students. The fifth graders explore the various formations of the clouds with the help of specialized multimedia programs prepared by the teachers, while the sixth graders investigate the ancient civilizations of the world and economic development throughout.

The examination pattern is broadly categorized into formative and summative periodic assessments, half-yearly and final exams which are taken over regular intervals apart from the weekly cyclical tests, which form the unit tests and help students to perform and improve with consistency. Testing student skills through various projects, presentations, and creative techniques is also a few ways apart from regular exams.

The school is affiliated with Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education and as per the guidelines given by the Board the students of grades V and VIII must appear in Board examinations. Considering it the school prepares the student and ensures that they face the exam with confidence and ease. The Academic team at the Middle school provides complete English medium exposure to students. Various educational activities like debates, extempore, elocution, enactments, and recitation allow students to gain confidence and speak without hesitation. Students are also encouraged to participate in various activities hosted in other schools.

The introduction of a third language is another key aspect. Students are given a choice to select any one language between Sanskrit and Urdu. Learning computers takes a step further during the middle school years. Students are taught to operate the basic computer operations in the computer lab. Library, games, and audio-visual periods form a part of the academic timetable. Science lab provides the opportunity to perform and observe the science practical for better understanding.

Inter-house competitions are held regularly developing the spirit of competitiveness amongst students. As students are growing and their quest to learn increases, responsibilities are given to them in different fields. The school magazine is designed and created by the editorial team which includes students of middle school. They are given a chance to write articles, and poems and express their views. The school Head Boy and Head Girl are also selected from this wing.

School is not just a knowledge hub but is the place for the holistic development of an individual providing all-around opportunities. Making friends, cooperating with peers, respecting elders, valuing our culture, and working hard with honesty are some of the values which we try to imbibe in every individual.
